Literacy: FG Begins Comprehensive Mapping Of Out Of School

The Federal Government has begun the comprehensive mapping exercise to identify those who are out of school or non-literate across the country.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Ahmad, while speaking at a Ministerial Press conference in Abuja ahead of the 2025 International Literacy Day, reaffirmed the commitment of the Tinubu's led administration to spreading education and Mass literacy in Nigeria.
Prof. Suwaiba noted that the administration is taking bold steps to expand access to literacy for all Nigerians especially the youth and adults aged 15 and above stressing that to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4.6, which calls for all youth and a substantial proportion of adults to achieve literacy and numeracy by 2030.
In their separate remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, Dr. John Eden Onimisi and the Representative of UNESCO, Oladeji Adeyemi, stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and relevant stakeholders towards reducing the increasing number of out of school Children in the country.
